Green Hills Of Earth Driving Tour

DATE: Sunday 02/20
TIME: 8:30-9:00AM -- Drive off at 9:30AM

This event will be held RAIN or SHINE

STARTING POINT: Novato near hwy 101 [parking lot in Novato Vintage Oaks Shopping Center just outside Starbucks] Drive the interesting and challenging roads in and among the verdant green hills of Sonoma and Napa Counties. Return route will be optional and interesting back through the Sonoma County hills and through Petaluma back to Novato. NOTE: There will be NO organized lunch this year.

Printed maps and turn-by-turn instructions will be provided.

This is a rain-or-shine drive, so plan accordingly, [check your tires and wipers].
You must come to the starting/staging point for an up-to-the-minute route update, driver’s meeting, and to confirm your understanding of this year’s lunch situation, i.e. NO LUNCH.
You may want to make your own arrangements for lunch in Calistoga at the halfway point, but there will be no organized group event this year. We are planning to gather post-event in Novato for the folks who would like to do that, weather and COVID-restrictions permitting, at Moylan’s Brewing Company on their outdoor patio, [no sign-up required for this after event, but masks will be required].

The Green Hills of Earth

Let the sweet fresh breezes heal me
As they rove around the girth
Of our lovely mother planet
Of the cool, green hills of Earth.

We've tried each spinning space mote
And reckoned its true worth:
Take us back again to the homes of men
On the cool, green hills of Earth.

The arching sky is calling
Spacemen back to their trade.
ALL HANDS! STAND BY! FREE FALLING!
And the lights below us fade.

Out ride the sons of Terra,
Far drives the thundering jet,
Up leaps a race of Earthmen,
Out, far, and onward yet ---

We pray for one last landing
On the globe that gave us birth;
Let us rest our eyes on the fleecy skies
And the cool, green hills of Earth.

~ Robert A. Heinlein  1907-1988
